My name is Diane Niland and my mission with The Engaged Handler is to assist you in enhancing your mental focus, motivation, goal setting, and life balance to help you achieve your goals.
I created The Engaged Handler to help handlers develop an open mindset and a process focus to achieve performance success in dog sports.
I began competing in performance dog sports in 1973. I have placed numerous titles on my dogs which include titles in breed, obedience, rally and agility. I also competed in college sports and was a Human Resources executive for a global company for 16 years. I received my Masters in Psychology in 2015. My background in performance dog sports, athletics, and business along with my education provides a unique insight into the competitive experience.
Over the years there were many challenges that I faced competing in dog sports as well as the work environment. During that time there were several constants that I noticed concerning adversity and outcome. Those constants were preparation, attitude and goal focus. Proper preparation, maintaining a positive attitude and a process goal focus led to the achievement of major goals and success. This is my main focus with the Engaged Handler.
